Procedure for Final Review

01. You are to arrive at the 2nd floor of BACC at 10:00 am sharp. If you live far away, you may want to leave home early. Please consult included map to see drop-off area. All your drawings and models are to be submitted to your instructor no later than 10:15 am. First students from each group must pin-up and to be ready to present at 10:30 am sharp.
02. Since BACC do not allowed double-sided tape, INDA will provide adhesive material called Parafix for you. Please make sure that all your plates are of A0 size. Do not print on long and heavy sheet of paper, since Parafix may not be able to hold up excessive weight.
03. The presentation order will not be announced, everyone is required to stay in the room and wait for the order from your instructor. If you are not there when it’s your turn to present, we will skip it and you will get an F for your final presentation grade.
04. All students must write down comments given to studio mates and to hand it in at the end of the day to the instructor. Failing to comply will result in one letter deduction from your overall grade of the entire semester.
05. Each presenter has about 20 minutes (depending on the amount of students in your review group) – approximately 7 minutes for presentation and 13 minutes for critique. Be sure you have a piece of paper with all important points outlined so you don’t miss anything important.
06. Since other instructors will be grading your work, student must bring all the models and sketches with you.
07. If you can’t show up, you will need to have a letter from a physician. A letter from your parents is not acceptable. Migraine and headache or anything minor do not excuse you from the presentation. Absence without a good reason will result in an F for your final project.
08. As we are presenting at the BACC this year, you are required to observe the Chulalongkorn University dress code. Shirt must be tucked in at all time. Sandals are not allowed. No one should be caught napping at any public area of the BACC. Failing to comply will result in F for your attitude.
09. To be fair to the students that are presenting early, no one is allowed to print out or do any work on the day of final presentation. If caught, you will not be allowed to present and get F for presentation and attitude.
10. No one is allowed to leave until everyone is finished. Each group is responsible for tidying up the space. Remove all the garbage, site model, and your work at the end of the day. The room must be left in the same state it was found. Failing to stay until the end and cleaning up will cost you a letter grade deduction from the entire semester.

Questions and Answers:
How much space will we be allotted approximately per student? And is there enough space for everyone to pinup at once or in turns?
Unfortunately, there is not enough space for everyone to pinup at once.  In each review room, two students will pinup at a time.  So each student will have approximately half of the wall space for presentation.  Each room will also have access to a projector.

Can my plate be series A2 or A1?
Yes, A1 or A2 format prints are acceptable, just avoid superlong rolls of paper that fall off the wall easily. If you plan to do a drawing that is more 1.2 meters, seam it over more than one board and line them up when mounting your work or cut the sheet down into smaller pieces.

How much space is there?how many A0s can we have?
See floor plan to estimate the number of A0s.  I would estimate the floor to ceiling height is around 3 meters.

Are we having projector to present?
Yes, each room will have a projector.  But if you are caught working on your slideshow while other students are presenting, you will receive a grade deduction (same as working on a model or drawing).  If you are using a Mac, make sure to bring the necessary adapter.  Any technical difficulties or delays will count as part of your allotted 7 minutes for presentation.

How about our site models that we did for each group? Who is responsible for that?
You have two options. Option A: photograph your massing model on the site model and include images on boards or slideshow.  Option B: Select a student representative or group of students to bring the group site model to BACC on Tuesday or Monday 10 am.  Shared site models can be stored in Room 9.  We would require all groups to transport the site models to BACC, but some of the models are in severe disrepair. If you are interested in dropping off work on Tuesday evening, please contact Aj Kerrie so we can arrange access to the storage room.

Design Build and Design and Construction for Community Projects

Second and Third Year Students:
On Monday April 4th, there will be a showing of the Design Experimentation work: brief ribbon-cutting for room 705 at 1pm and video screenings at 4:30 or 5pm
(room to be announced).

For Design Build and Design and Construction of Community Projects in Thailand:
April 4th - Program & Schedule Distribution (via email and hardcopy announcements)
April 8th - Presentation + Lottery after Arch Design I & Architecture and Urbanism 5 pm (TBD)

This semester, INDA will offer multiple Design Build and Design and Construction for Communities projects for you to choose from. Once the project briefs are distributed on or around April 4th, please spend some time reading through the documents and start thinking about which project that you would like to participate in. Each instructor will give a presentation about his/her project on Friday, April 8th, 2011 and instructors will be available to answer questions that you may have. Students who have been selected and paid their deposits for the Berlin or India program are welcome to attend but do not participate in the lottery process.

After the presentations on April 8th, we will pass around the ballots in which you will list your four most preferred projects. Then we will collect back the ballots and sort out the final lists for each group. For those who do not show up on Friday to sign in and submit the ballots yourself, you will be randomly assigned to projects which have openings. Please show up if you want to work on the project of your preference. The result will be announced on April 12th, 2011. Once announced, you may hear from your instructors regarding the first meeting place and time.

Y3 Class Friday and Uniform Policy

Y3 Students:
All third year INDA courses will resume regularly scheduled class time as of Thursday March 31st.  While some groups might still be finishing up work associated with design experimentation workshop after hours or over the weekend, all students (except AA Paris Workshop) are expected to attend Environmental Technology and Architecture and Urbanism class on Friday.

Also please wear your uniform to classes for the remainder of the semester, no jeans or flip-flops and shirts tucked in. I have received the following notice from Aj. Preechaya, and instructors will be collecting IDs for students not following the dress code policy.

Though the school atmosphere and mood now is summer, it is regular school time for INDA. Therefore, during school weekday official hours, students should wear uniform, particularly during contact time with instructors at school. Uniform is about discipline, respect and being professional, and should not be compromised. I request a strict enforcement on students wearing uniform during weekday school office hours, disregarding whether they have class or not.

Dear all,

Since we received high number of students interested in the Advanced Cinemetrics workshop in Hong Kong, AJ Kerrie and I decided that we will have to ask each of you to submit a 500 word essay expressing why and how you think this workshop can benefit you and your future. The essay will serve as the main selection criteria to narrow down applicants to 15 final names.

It is unfortunate that we can only take 15 students for this program. Since Chu Hai College is the host, we will have to respect the requested number.

The deadline for submitting the essay is 10:00pm on Sunday, February 27th. The result will be announced on Monday at 10:00pm. The selected candidates then shall pay 5,000baht deposit to P'Sai at INDA office no later than Tuesday. For those failed to pay the deposits on Tuesday, your names will be dropped and those on waitlist will replace you. Please stick to these steps carefully as we do not have much time to book everything. By the way, INDA will arrange everything for you as a package. Those selected will be instructed to pay to INDA when things are all sorted out.

Best Regards,
AJ Narin
