Hong Kong Design Experimentation Workshop March 9-19

Third Year Students,
Please arrive for Urbanism class at 1 pm promptly because I will be announcing the Hong Kong Design Experimentation Workshop before Aj. Komthat starts his lecture. Please see attached file for information regarding the Hong Kong workshop hosted by Chu Hai College.  Once I receive the final schedule and details for the program I will forward it via email.

This year the title of the workshop is 'Advanced Cinemetrics, Tsuen Wan the New Town'. It employs the cinemetrics theory to unfold the urbanism of the old new town- Tsuen Wan. The workshop encompasses lecture, discussion, studio sessions, production and presentation. Students will form teams with counterparts from other years and schools to investigate, analyze and then construct a product for the subject matter. Apart from Brian McGrath, Victoria Marshall and Jose Dejesus from Parsons will come as guest instructors.    In past years, Prof. Brian McGrath has conduced cinemetric workshops in New York Hong Kong and Bangkok, such as the Architecture of 3 Ecologies http://www.phanat.net/groupInterface.html

Michael Lazarin Lecture Tuesday 2/22

Dear All,

Michael Lazarin, a professor from Ryukoku University in Kyoto, will give a talk on in-between space of Japanese domestic architecture. The lecture will be on this Tuesday (2/22) instead of Wednesday (2/23) as previously stated in the poster. The room is also changed to room 319.

His bio:

"Michael Lazarin was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1950. As an undergraduate, he was a double major in mechanical engineering and philosophy. He received a Ph.D. from Duquesne University in 1980, with a dissertation on Heidegger and Hölderlin, directed by Father Andre Schuwer. He taught literature and philosophy in China from 1982-84 and since then in Japan. Lazarin teaches Western literature and art history at the undergraduate level at Ryukoku University, a 370 year-old Buddhist university in kyoto. His graduate seminar is a three-year rotation of Aristotle's Poetics, Nietzches's Birth of Tragedy, and Heidegger's poetics."
